The Decarbonising the Building Industry (DBI) initiative was thrilled to step up as Platinum Sponsor of the 27th Australasian Conference on the Mechanics of Structures and Materials (ACMSM27), held 25–28 November 2025 at Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne.
ACMSM27 gathered leading researchers, engineers, material scientists and industry professionals from across Australia, New Zealand and beyond to present the latest advances in structural mechanics, innovative materials and resilient infrastructure. Over four days, delegates heard keynote lectures from world-class experts on topics ranging from steel–concrete composite systems and early-warning systems for fire-induced collapse to rotational dynamics in mass-timber structures, strategies for maximising research impact and multiscale modelling of 3D-printed concrete.
For DBI, sponsoring ACMSM27 at the highest level was a natural fit. The conference placed heavy emphasis on performance-based design, new low-carbon materials and structural systems that can help the building sector cut embodied and operational emissions – exactly the challenges our initiative exists to tackle.
Being on the ground in Melbourne gave the DBI team valuable face-to-face time with academics, practising engineers and industry partners. We were able to showcase our current projects, explore new research collaborations and hear first-hand where the biggest knowledge gaps and opportunities lie.
A huge thank you to the organising committee, Swinburne University and all the presenters and attendees who made ACMSM27 such a success. Events like this are critical for turning cutting-edge research into practical solutions that will decarbonise construction across Australasia and beyond.
