Project Summary
This project aims to align with Vietnam’s National Determined Contributions (NDC) Buildings Roadmap to 2050 by integrating advanced low-carbon technologies and materials into the construction sector. Responding to global and national calls for sustainable, climate-resilient building practices, the initiative targets a significant reduction in the building sector’s carbon footprint.

Key Objectives:
Low-Carbon Technology Adoption:
Demonstrate and scale sustainable construction materials and techniques to reduce embodied carbon, setting benchmarks for wider industry adoption.Policy Alignment and Advocacy:
Support integration of low-carbon practices with Vietnam’s NDC Roadmap through policy development and advocacyStakeholder Engagement:
Enhance industry capacity through targeted workshops and training programs on green building practices.Monitoring and Evaluation:
Implement transparent tracking systems for progress reporting to government bodies and international partners
Project Focus Areas
- Low-carbon materials substitution.
- Policy advocacy and integration.
- Technology demonstration and training.
- Monitoring and evaluation mechanisms.
Expected Outcomes:
This project aims to:
- Support the decarbonization of Vietnam’s building industry with low-carbon materials.
- Achieve embodied carbon reduction targets for 2025, 2030, and 2050 as outlined in Vietnam’s NDC Roadmap.
- Develop policy recommendations to scale low-carbon construction practices.
- Drive economic growth by adopting low-carbon technologies, positioning Vietnam as a leader in sustainable materials in the Asia-Pacific regions.
- Provide training modules and videos to enhance industry capacity in sustainable practices
Timeline and Budget:
The project will run over three years (2025-2027), with key activities including research, pilot implementation, training programs, and dissemination of findings. The total budget will be allocated based on project scope, with funding provided through DBI sponsorship and collaboration with project partners.
Project updates
Vietnam Institute of Building Science and Technology (IBST) has organized a series of conferences, workshops, and training courses to promote low-carbon solutions in Vietnam’s building industry.
Key events include:
- International Conference on Construction Science and Technology Towards Sustainable Development (November 2023, Vietnam)
- Short Course for Vietnamese Delegation – DBI Network Training Course (May 2024, University of Melbourne)
- Workshop on Low Carbon Materials and Decarbonisation Roadmaps (May 2024, Vietnam)
- Global Trends in Green and Energy Transition – Australian Experience (August 2024, Vietnam)
- International Conference on Building Materials in the 21st Century (October-November 2024, Vietnam)
These initiatives have resulted in the development of Low Carbon Materials Guidelines and strategic collaborations, aligning Vietnam’s building practices with global decarbonisation roadmaps.
